Interview with Stephen - June 2007

(Please do not use these photos on other websites/message boards/MySpace etc. Thanks.)

Q - Stephen you've announced you are going to play the part of Jesus in Godspell in the Autumn. What can you tell us about the show?

Stephen - I don't know a lot about the show but I know it's based on the stories in the gospel according to St Matthew. I have the soundtrack to learn and there are some quite catchy songs in it.

Q - What made you decide to take this role?

Stephen - I wanted to do another musical and this one is well liked within the musical theatre world.

Q - This is the first time you have toured with a musical - how do you feel about living away from home during the 11 week run?

Stephen - I'm not looking forward to that aspect but I'll make the most of it and enjoy each place. It'll be fun looking for the best restaurants everywhere.

Q - What will you miss most while you are away?

Stephen - Bentley, but I might take him along with me sometimes.

Q - What things will you take with you that you can't live without?

Stephen - Clothes, skin care products, Ipod and Andrew.

Q - Do you know who your fellow cast members are going to be yet?

Stephen - No but I'm going to be at the auditions to voice my opinion.

Q - When do rehearsals start?

Stephen - In August for two weeks.

Q - Are you looking forward to doing another musical theatre show?

Stephen - Yes I am. It's always fun to do musical theatre and it's nice it's not too long a run.

Q - What do you enjoy most about being in a show?

Stephen - The reaction you get from an audience if they like what you do.

Q - Is there any part in a musical that you really want to play?

Stephen - Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys.

Q - What do you think of the trend towards using TV programmes like Any Dream Will Do to cast West End shows?

Stephen - I think it's fine. It gives a lot of people an opportunity that they may not have had without having a long resume.

Q - You played Joseph for 8 months. What advice would you give to Lee Mead who won Any Dream Will Do?

Stephen - Take care of your voice and have fun with the show. Be nice to your fellow cast members.

Q - If you could cast anyone in the role of Joseph apart from yourself who would it be?

Stephen - Steve Jones (from T4) - not sure if he can sing but he'd look good in a loincloth!

Q - And finally the question everyone is asking - will Boyzone be getting back together?

Stephen - I would love it to happen but it would be difficult to get all five of us together at the same time.
