
Former Boyzone star STEPHEN GATELY will play the leading role in the forthcoming 2007 Autumn tour of the rock opera GODSPELL . One of the most successful musicals of all times GODSPELL is based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew depicting the last days of Jesus.
The show will open mid September and will tour around the UK until December. The show will be directed by Paul Kerryson
As one fifth of Boyzone STEPHEN GATELY is a household name. Boyzone were one of the most successful boybands in history, who over seven years notched up no less than six number one singles, four number one albums and played to millions of fans the world over.
In 2007 Stephen paired up with Canadian champion skater Kristina Lenko to take part in ITV's smash hit Saturday night show Dancing On Ice. Stephen joined G4 on their latest album Act Three, and he presented and sang with them at the annual Childline Concert in Dublin.
Stephen is vice patron of National Missing Persons Helpline and supports the Runaway Helpline which provides an essential service for vulnerable people in their time of need .
GODSPELL features a sparkling, seminal score by Stephen Schwartz and boasts a string of recognisable songs, led by the international hit, ³Day By Day. The show was an immediate hit when it opened in the spring of 1971 at an off-Broadway theatre. Between 1971 and 1973, productions opened in Los Angeles, London, Paris, Washington, D.C., Toronto, San Francisco, Melbourne, Sydney, Hamburg, and Berlin. The show, written by then, college student John-Michael Tebelak and Stephen Schwartz of Pippin, and more recently Pocahontas, and Prince of Egypt, fame went on to win rave reviews and a Grammy Award for Best Score.
PAUL KERRYSON has directed a wide range of plays, new writing and musicals with several London transfers and National tours. He is currently the artistic director for the Haymarket Theatre Leicester. Kerryson is particularly associated with Stephen Sondheim, having directed several of his musicals and worked closely with him on the European premier of Merrily We Sing Along.
